I picked up the Dragon 1/35 scale UH-1D Huey for a major project I have going. I will be doing a massive diorama type build of several models in honor of all my brothers. There are five brothers (I being the oldest), and four of us served in the military. So I am building all the vehicles we used during service in mini dioramas (not really mini given the scale). So Eric was a crew chief in Panama on the UH-1D. I will be doing his diorama in a jungle setting, having the bird coming in to pick up a few troops. Anyway, on to the initial review of the kit. 1/35 scale is a large scale for anyone looking to do a Huey up in detail. The kit comes with two pilot figures, to gunners, prepainted PE (which is very nicely done), and several versions of Vietnam era birds in the decals. I of course will have to custom make the markings for my brothers bird. The kit detail is nicely done, however, the clear plastic parts are pretty thick overall. Assembly seems straight forward, but the interior has to be completed before it is put in place between the two fuselage halves. Overall, I am impressed with the shear size of this model (I believe the largest version I built in my younger years was an old Revell 1/48), so this will be a bit more work than I anticapated. None the less, it should prove to be a fun project.
